a. 连接对等的单词、短语和从句

单词：

Not only I but also he is wrong.

She is not only kind but also graceful as well.

短语：

I came not only to see you but (also) to say goodbye to you.

He was fired not only because of his laziness but (also) because of his failure to meet my requirements.

从句：

He was fired not only because he was lazy but because he failed to meet my requirements.

b. 连接对等的句子，由于not only 置于句首，视为否定副词，第一个句子倒装。But also 仅为连接词，故其后的第二个句子不需要倒装，但also则一定要省略，或移到句中。也可以将also省略后而在句尾处加as well。

Not only can she sing, but she can (also) dance.

Not only can she sing, but she can dance as well.

Before I left, not only had I closed the door, but I had (also) cleaned the room.

Before I left, not only had I closed the door, but I had cleaned the room as well.
